Bono Mack fought for key provisions to improve treatment and care for those living with HIV/AIDS
Washington,
Oct 21 -
A leader in the effort to improve and extend the Ryan White Care Act, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today praised House passage of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act (H.R. 3792), which includes key provisions that Bono Mack supported. Bono Mack, who joined several of her colleagues in introducing H.R. 3792, continues to help lead the effort to improve quality of life and treatment options for those living with HIV/AIDS.
“I am pleased that the House of Representatives passed this critical legislation that will ensure continuity of care and improve quality of life for individuals living with HIV/AIDS,” said Bono Mack. “I have seen firsthand the positive impact of Ryan White funding through the tireless efforts of such organizations as the Desert AIDS Project.
“With so many people and organizations depending on this essential funding, it is my hope that the Senate will act quickly to pass this bill, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on this very important issue.”
David Brinkman, Executive Director of the Desert AIDS Project, said, “Desert AIDS Project applauds the Congressional efforts to swiftly pass an extension to the Ryan White program. We remain proud of Congresswoman Bono Mack’s dedication to assuring the continued care and treatment of the thousands of people living with HIV or AIDS in our district.”
Bono Mack has consistently called for swift action on extending the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act in a way that reflects the unified recommendations of over 275 HIV/AIDS organizations in 45 states across the country. Key recommendations Bono Mack supported include ensuring authorizations for adequate funding, updating the Requirement of Names-Based Reporting section, and ensuring continuity of care is preserved for individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
