Washington, Jan 28, 2009 - Emphasizing the need for targeted programs that will bring immediate help to America’s families and businesses, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today opposed the $850 billion spending package introduced by Congressional Democrats. Bono Mack issued the following statement:

“We need a decisive plan that will turn our economy around and get hardworking Americans and businesses back on their feet,” said Bono Mack. “This flawed legislation fails to fulfill its promise. Instead of offering a clear, concise stimulus for our economy, the hastily-crafted spending package pours billions of dollars into more government bureaucracies, without assurance that it will bring the relief hardworking Americans and businesses so desperately need right now.

“This bill has many beneficial and worthwhile provisions, such as improving water and transportation infrastructure and boosting clean energy technologies. Unfortunately, the benefits of these good projects are overshadowed by the massive amount of wasteful spending that has nothing to do with job creation or economic growth. Future generations shouldn’t be burdened with this debt. Congress can and must do better. The American people deserve more.”
