Specifically, these funds will allow for disposal of non-recyclable waste brine from industry within the Eastern Municipal Water District’s (EMWD) service area and from EMWD’s Desalination Program by building up to four brine disposal pipelines that will connect to existing brine management facilities.

The entity to receive funding for this project is the City of Moreno Valley, located at 14177 Frederick Street, Moreno Valley, CA 92552. These funds will help address flooding concerns in the area surrounding March Air Reserve Base (MARB). Heacock and Cactus Channels are undersized channels that have proven inadequate to contain flooding , even during moderate rainstorms. Furthermore, substantial vegetation has grown within both channels and impedes the conveyance of tributary flows to an existing ultimate downstream outlet, resulting in drains backing-up within the city of Moreno Valley, flooding in local neighborhoods and impeding emergency services’ access. The significant flooding through MARB results in major disruptions to operations at the base, including the fueling of airplanes, the transport of troops and supplies to the Middle East. Additionally, the flooding has caused extensive erosion along Heacock Avenue, which has jeopardized existing major utilities within the road right of way.

The riparian corridor can become a safe home for several listed endangered species that have already been found to exist nearby. The Salton Sea Authority, the State of California, and a number of Federal agencies have worked both together and separately to develop plans to restore the Salton Sea. To date, several alternative plans have been developed but no final preferred plan has been selected. However, there is universal agreement in all plans that species conservation habitat is necessary, and all plans include a feature of this type. Thus, these funds would begin restoration through providing habitat for such species as the endangered desert pupfish, in addition to replacing lost food-production capacity for birds, as the Salton Sea’s salinity increases with time.

New technology to capture, manage, use, and store vital patient data are increasing the efficiency, safety and quality of patient data storage and retrieval. Lost, incomplete, or illegible papers and medical charts often frustrate physicians, nurses, and other caregivers. Too much time is spent looking-up information or interpreting handwriting rather than caring for patients. In addition, today’s advancements in technology provide health centers with the opportunity to provide more efficient care and reduce medical errors by converting medical records into electronic, digitized documents, in addition to ensuring records are safe in the case of a natural disaster.
